Advair vs. Qvar

topic posted Sat, March 11, 2006 - 2:07 PM by  LiaBear
Hi folks. New here. I've had mild asthma since I was a kid. A while ago, I was prescribed Qvar to help me get over a cough. Has anyone done any research about the 2? Do you they do the same thing?

    I don't know Qvar & am a newbie to my COPD of a couple of years (compared to lifetime strugglers though the hints were always there)
    & Advair with Albutyrl pulled me out of black lung despair but it was not until my Dr gave me Spiriva that I realy felt like I took a turn upwards in my energy & capacity. I still use all 3 but the Albutyrl just for ER situations - environmental pollutant exposure like fragrances or exhaust, or Heart weakness ie dizzy, & Advair I use once in the pm though I'm supposed to do twice; I just can't figure out when to breathe inbetween all the puffing ;;}}
    I am very happy with Spirivas effect though & less seeming side effects orally.

    I also take 300mgs of flushiing Niacin every morning to open the Alveoli & Cappilaries & have been doing this for 10+ yrs after I contacted a virus in China that scarred the Lungs. It works for Asthmatics too but that is Not a medical claim by me in lie of yr Drs advice>>> no no never never>>>>

      "300mgs of flushiing Niacin every morning to open the Alveoli & Cappilaries" sounds interesting. Maybe I'll give it a try.

        I started out with 100mgs & built up to 300 mgs Lia. Sometimes the 'flush' can be unnerving til you feel in understanding control of it. I also use lots! of other supplements & will take my 1st set of a.m. ones + meds with the Niacin & coffee (not for beginners as the stomach can churl unlkess you have yoghurt or toast til the iron casting sets in >>>*O*) but I Never take my Niacin with my multi B as that would be over the top for me^^^^^^^

        Interestingly I have noticed the amount of intensity in my bodys flush seems to correlate with 1, how I am feeling (bad = more flush, good = less flushing), 2, weather (barometer pressure), 3, alcohol indulgence the night before (gets that gunk right outta ya!).

        Niacin also lowers the Blood Pressure & Cholesterol Plaque build up. My Dr is always amazed at my low BP & that is after 5 cups of coffee~ But I have low to start with; the coffeee brings it up ;}

        In the p.m. at bedtime I take Multi Minerals. Magnesium helps muscle tissue especially to relax & water dispersment. I've never read into Minerals influence on breathing but I'm sure they are very important; could be interesting to look into.................

    Hi, Lia! I called my asthma doc's office today to double check on a couple of things for here. Alas, he was on vaction but the nurse said Advair contains both a corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) and aq bronodiuliator while Qvar is just a corticosteroid.
