Advair Users

topic posted Thu, September 29, 2005 - 7:04 PM by  Ginger
Hi, folks. I'm a new asthmatic, recently diagnosed. I use an Advair thingie and Albuterol inhaler. I've noticed that certain foods taste different to me since using the Advair. Anyone else experience this? It's not a bad taste, just different.

This is probably unrelated and your doctor hopefully told you this, but remember to rinse your mouth out really good right after using advair because otherwise the steroid in it can cause a bacteria infection.

And also drink something as well sfter you rinse yer mouth. This will rinse out any residue that might be in yer throat as well.

*nods* I'm doing that, too. I noticed my taste buds are back to normal now. Is it possible to just get the powder completely down your throat and into your lungs without it hitting your tongue? I have some kind of a reflex, I think. When I inhale and feel this stuff going down into my lungs, I automatically stop and it lands on my tongue. Hard to control, I admit.

Not that I'm aware of. I've not had the problem I think you have, tho. I just make sure I start inhaling a little bit before I put the disk to my mouth and make sure I keep inhaling for as long as possible. A lil' bit of powder is still going to remain in my mouth.

if i am not mistaken you can actually get a yeast infection orally if you dont rinse or brush it all out! i brush, rinse and gargle after every puff. other than that, this has been my miracle drug for my asthma. however without insurance it is $159 per month. anyone know of any other ways to procure said miracle without starving for sake of breathing????

                  K-Lee -

                  I get mine via Canadadrugs.com

Dunno what strength you use but (I'm looking at their site right now) the 100/50 is $90.02 for 60 doses, the 150/50 is $98.55 and the 500/50 is $151.79

"I have some kind of refles....."
Have you discussed with yr Dr about having any 'swallowing' problems?? It took Forever for me to get someone to listen, & they - the infamous they - still do not take it as serious as I happen to think it is But I actually have muscular swallowing exhaustion>>>>>
so you might ask about it. Sometimes it's the inflammation from the Sinus cavities or Throat/Neck problems

wasn't there some major warning released a few months back about the advair inhaler? i use it too when i'm sick, i remember being told to watch out for some massive recall. either some longitudinal study came to a close studying the users or it contained some chemical that causes negative reactions in a certain demographic.... whatever became of that?

There was talk of it having a negative reaction in some people and that it was going to be looked into towards the end of last year (in the fall) Haven't heard a thing since and my asthma doc (who was going to attend the conference) had no problems in refilling my order for it in January. I'll ask him about it next week.

bummer. i wish someone'd come up with a generic. i only have one disc left and my dr.s been getting stingy w/the samples.

I was just doing some checking/googling and I stumbled onto THIS Canadian pharmacy. www.crossborderpharmacy.com/index.html

Check their prices. It looks like the Advair they can get from Chile is hella cheap.

y'know my dr. warned me about buying from foreign countries when she learned that i was buying some advair in mexico. she was concerned that drugs werent being regulated and that i could wind up with any combo of stuff inside. i recently shared this with a respiratory therapist friend of mine and she scoffed at that saying that is ridiculous.
anyone have any info on this or thoughts either way?

My asthma doc (I'm down here in Tucson) has no problems with me using the Canadian pharmacy I use (been using them for a couple of years now) They've also been getting my drugs through other countries (I've gotten my Singular via England, Spain, and Turkey, my Uniphyl via Canada and the Advair via Vanuatu of all places) and so far not one problem. All of them have been by the same pharmacutical companies that sell the stuff here and all with the same ingredients (at least as far as what is said on the packaging).

Okay...called my asthma doc's office today but, alas, he's on vacation. I spoke to one of his nurses and she wasn't sure of the details but one thing she recalled hearing was that some people were using it as an emergancy anti-asthma attack fix (which is more of an albuterol inhaler's job) rather than a preventative.

I'll check in again with him when he gets back from his vacation.

            Not a problem! Yer welcome!

The nurse meant that the problems that were reported in about it ^seemed^ to be from people using it to deal with an attack they were having rather than just using it normally (like you). I'm curious myself about what was finally decided so, being the obsessive that I am, I'll check in with dear ol' doc when he's back in his office.
